Helene Releif

the Storm

On September 27, Hurricane Helene devastated the region of Western North Carolina. Strong winds and significant rainfall brought destruction throughout the area.

Mudslides carried away homes and covered up others. Rivers rose above their 1000 year flood stage and up to the roofs of many houses. Countless trees fell on homes, cars and power lines throughout the area. In an instant, many families had their livelihood and possessions swept away. What was one moment their treasure was turned to trash by the raging river.

But worse than all of that, over 100 lives were lost during the storm.

 Rising Again

But that is not the end of the story.

After the story of feeding a large crowd of people for the second time, the disciples are complaining about being hungry. Jesus turns to them and says, “You don’t understand the loaves” (Mark 6:52).

We don’t understand why the storm happened but we now understand the abundant resources of the kingdom and the generosity of God’s people. The outpouring of support, supplies and love from people all over the country has been incredible.

But the work to rebuild has just begun.

Your support

The church is the light of the world. We want to offer our neighbors hope through these dark times by showing them the love of Christ and being the hands and feet of Jesus; helping to rebuild from the ashes.

100% of your donation will go to helping families in our area rebuild their homes and their lives. We are working with volunteer groups and partners like World Vision who are donating supplies to stretch the impact of every dollar as far as we can.

What’s New

We have begun construction on restoring 3 homes in Beacon Village. The framing is going to be completed soon on each of these homes and the electrical, plumbing and mechanical subcontractors will begin next.

We are nearly finished restoring another families home and will be painting the walls in the next week.

Finally, we have demolished 3 homes that were unihabitable after the storm and are working with the families on home plans that include raising the homes above the flood level to protect them in the future.
